TIPS : HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM

  1. General
  • It is very important that service and maintenance should always be carried out by an experienced technician with thorough air-conditioning, electrical and controls knowledge.
  • Service and maintenance should preferably be undertaken as a preventative measure in the form of a service contract.
  1. User Attention
  • The user of the air con equipment should take regular note of any problems noticed (examples: noise, vibration, lights not working ect.), and reported to your service company.
  • Through this procedure many malfunctions can be corrected before breakdowns occur.
  1. Major Points to be adhered to
  • ALWAYS ENSURE THAT THE AIR FILTER IN THE EVAPORATOR IS CLEAN.
Do not remove or run the unit without a filter. This will damage the unit.
Rather ensure that you have a monthly or bi-monthly service contract with a respectable Air con company to ensure regular servicing of your unit.
This will prolong the life of your unit, and result in fewer breakdowns, and save on electricity.
  • DO NOT OBSTRUCT THE AIRFLOW.
Do not place any object in the supply air path or return air path on either the evaporator or condensing unit.
This will cause no air to circulate and the unit will not run efficiently.
This could also ultimately cause damage to your unit.
  • DO NOT LEAVE THE WINDOWS OR DOORS OPEN.
Keep all external doors and doors to un-air conditioned spaces closed for as long as practically possible.
Energy is wasted by leaving doors and windows open, as cold air always seek out hot air.
  • DON NOT STOP AND START MACHINE UNNECESSARILY.
Quick successive stopping and starting of the machine can damage the electronics. Although safeties are installed in all machines it is good practice not to switch on/off and on again quickly.
Rapid changing over from heating to cooling can damage the machine in the same way.
  • DO NOT SET TEMPERATURE TO UNREALISTIC SETTINGS.
By setting the temperatures anything below 19°C will keep the machine operating but the systems are not designed for this.
The electricity bill will sky-rocket with very little benefit to the space.
Possible liquid slugging can also occur leaving the compressor severely damaged.
  • TAKE THE HUMAN FACTOR IN CONSIDERATION.
We are all different and in different stages of life.
Some might enjoy cooler weather, others hotter weather, others don’t tolerate cold or hot, they prefer mild weather.
This could be a nightmare for your servicing and maintenance technician if the whole office is on him when trying to set the units temperature.
Please note that ideal room temperature is between 22°C and 24°C.
Should you require a little bit more heat, please bring a sweater to work.
Should you require more cooler air, dress appropriately for the temperature and drink lots of ice water, this will also cool you down.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE – YOU WILL SAFE A LOT OF MONEY IN THE LONG RUN.
